Secrets of Faydwer - #5 Counting Shadows

This is the fifth of seven tradeskill related quests to produce an item that improves in quality at each step and is a good, in-era item.

This quest line is also a pre-requisite for The Artisan's Prize as of 2016.

You must have completed Not So Simple Jewelry, Clay Within the Beast, Food for the Injured and Scrap Oil in order to request this task.

The quest line is given by Eron Nurwistle in Dragonscale Hills. He’s located at 794, -568, 183 – at the top of a windmill near the middle of the zone.
He is on find, but mysterious forces may prevent you from getting a path.

You must have a minimum skill of 250 in Fletching to receive this task.

Before you begin:

You must have a Fletching Kit on your character, and you’ll need a forge as you get closer to the end of the quest.

You will need to obtain a few items in order to complete this task.

You’ll need to collect ingredients in three zones:

In Hills of Shade:

You will also need to bring someone with you who can see creatures with enhanced visibility. Normal See Invis does not work.
Druid’s Eyes of the Winter Hawk or Sharp Eyes works, Ranger’s Skylight Sagacity, Wizard or Mage Aspect of Zomm or Sense Undead can all help you find a slithering shade that drops Swirling Shadow Essence.

Eron Nurwistle says 'Yes, that setting works great. For your next task, you will need to test your [fletching] skills.'
You say, 'fletching?'
Eron Nurwistle says 'This next task does not have anything to do with my revenge, but it instead has to do with my curiosity. I found a book, but it is missing a few pages. From what I can tell it is an instruction book, but with the missing pages I cannot read it. I have gotten enough information though to figure that it leads to making an arrow. I am not sure of why someone made it so difficult to get the recipe, but it is. I have determined that you will be able to find the missing pages off of some of denizens within a crypt in the Hills of Shade. I expect that this will be dangerous, and I will only offer this task to someone with an expert skill at fletching. Do you think you are [ready] for this task?'

You have been assigned the task 'Counting Shadows'.

Open and scribe Eron’s Steel Reconfiguration Pattern

Eron Nurwistle says 'This time I will give you the pattern you need for another reconfiguration setting once we have determined what the book's instructions lead too. I have given you two items, a guide to your next configuration, and the damaged instruction book.'
Eron wants you to complete the book he has given you and give him an example of what is in it.

Follow the directions in the book (0/1) Hills of Shade

It is extremely important that the next three steps be done in this specific order, at these specific times.

NOTE: Any of the gem boxes can be used in any of the shadow boxes.

Next you will need to carefully place your boxes on the altar.

Again – you must do this exactly as described, precisely at 12:00pm Noon game time and quickly. The boxes must be placed within 1 minute real time.

Ensure you are alone at the altar and no one else is attempting this step of the quest before you proceed.

WARNING: If you place the boxes in the wrong order, at the wrong time or if you open the wrong box after they have been placed, you will either suffer a 325K death touch or be swarmed and killed by mobs that spawn and attack you.

If you fail at this point, you will need to destroy all boxes you still have and turn in your shadow counting book to Eron to reset your invisible flags so you can restart this leg of the quest.

  • Position yourself on the south side of the altar facing north.
  • At precisely 12:00pm Noon right click on any of the Shadow boxes to place it in the middle of the altar.
  • Immediately move to the west side of the altar facing east (left) and click on another one of the Shadow Boxes to place it on that side of the altar.
  • Immediately move to the east, side of the altar facing west (opposite) and click on the last Shadow Box to place it on the other side of the altar.
  • Now, move back to the west side of the altar facing east.
  • At precisely 1:00pm, click on and /open the box in front of you.
  • Loot Shadowspike Arrow Tip Mold, a Black Gem Grade Faycite and Making Shadowspike Arrows

Open and scribe Making Shadowspike Arrows.

Create 2 Shadowspike Arrow (Expendable) using tradeskills (0/2) ALL

First Create 2 Shadowspike Arrow Tip

Components: Celestial Essence, Shadowspike Arrow Tip Mold, Small Piece of High Quality Steel
